French Quarter Architecture

I read this somewhere, "The architecture of the French Quarter is Spanish, but the culture is French."

You can see that Spanish influence in the somewhat plain, thick-walled stucco buildings with their balconies to ward off the sun and the heat.

Then you add the French touches of the pitched roofs with deep dormers and the perfectly proportioned wooden millwork around the windows and doors......and Voila! It all works! It's unmistable and uniquely New Orleans!
