Esplanade Avenue in New Orleans is distinctive in many ways. There are hundreds of beautiful homes situated right next to each other with only a narrow walkway separating them.
Each house has it's own style: some with wrought iron balconies, some with pillars, some with generous front porches others with covered arched doorways. This should be an architectural nightmare, but in New Orleans it all works! Somehow, the perfectly proportioned design of one house compliments the style of its neighbor.
This cramped collection of buildings could be found in any old section of any city, but here's the New Orleans touch: Add beautiful tall palm trees growing right out of the narrow sidewalk, and then add the charm of the live oak branches reaching out from the boulevard, and you have Unique New Orleans!
